The region that is covered by the Pee Dee Region Workforce Development Board is Mongomery, Moore and Richmond Counties in North Carolina. The three counties are supported by Interstates 73 and (future) 74, and US Routes 1 and 74, which provides one day trucking access to 60% of the U.S. Population. The region is also supported by two international airports in about an hour's drive.

The region is home to a diverse economy of manufacturing, service, retail, transportation, tourism, healthcare, recreation and education. The three counties enjoy a rich history dating back to pre-revolutionary war times, yet are on the cutting edge in many industries and are marked by lush wooded countrysides. Vistors are drawn to such attractions as the world-class golf in the Pinehurst/Southern Pines area, the Uwharrie National Forest, the National Railroad Hall of Fame, pottery centers, motorsports, historical sites and outdoor activities.
